Obama has raised record breaking amounts of money. What do you think of McCain making reference to the Watergate scandal regarding how much money Obama is spending?
What do you think of the length of time candidates campaign?

I think McCain is upset that he is down in the polls and trying anything to cast doubt on Obama's character, which could have a negative effect on race relations in this country
I feel if we shorten the campaign trail to about 6 months that would drastically reduce the amount of money candidates spend. In addition, with the economic crisis we are in I think both campaign so put a personal limit on their spending and donate the balance to the booster the economy.
Those are warm and fuzzy thoughts D, but you know the campaign train isn't gonna get any shorter, you can't even put a time frame on it, because these 2 have been campaining for 2 yrs now. By putting a limit on spending you are really asking them to go back to the old system of fund raising with the govt matched funds.
McCain simply tapped out his donations early on in his campaign and finding it difficult to find new donors. Obama has been working the grass roots method and taking the $5, $10, $20 donations for the bumper stickers and yard signs. It seems that donations would spike right toward the end of any election because everyone wants that yard sign or bumper sticker of the apparent front runner.
Now at the end of the campaign, and after the election, all candidates' 'War chest' should be taxed based on the highest amount they held at any point during the official candidacy. That money could go toward reducing the national debt.
the issue that mccain is raising isn't based at all on how much money hes raising its based on the fact that he first agreed to take public financing for his campaingn (which limited his spending and fundraising) then changed him mind after mccain had already agreed to do the same. So really the issue isn't that he's raising tons of money its that he lied and now there is no oversight or accountability in his fundraising, thats the issue mccain is talking about. here is an excellent article from newsweek that has a lot of good detail.

oh and as for the polls, according to the national average on RCP, hes only up by 6 and thats with a 3 point margin of error. Reagan was down by way more than that at this point in 1980.
Good article Josh, but didn't McCain have the same option to not accept public funds?
it was available to both candidates and both initially agreed. mccain kept his word, obama didn't.
I have a bumper sticker and 2 t-shirts that contributed to Obama.
Out of all the campaigns I've voted in, since 92, this one seems the longest. I think they should wrap campaigning it up in a year.
Josh - stop talkin' bout Prez Obama like dat :)
