Dem can get 60 seats in the Senate

Winning a "magic 60" could prevent GOP from blocking legislation

Of the 35 Senate seats on the line this year, 23 are held by Republicans. Do you realize DEM's would have the ability to pass any legislation they wanted through the senate.

Not only is this a perfect storm type situation, it's a perfect disaster brewing. Are you aware that if the one party contols congress and the white house you have removed 2/3rd of the checks and balance system put in place? There is the possibility that any crazy, half baked piece of legistation could be written into UNLESS the Supreme Court intervened. Accountability would have a window to fly out of, and havoc would have a door to walk in. As much as I may not agree with a lot of the policies in place, those same people who put them in place need to have some type of voice and power to prevent any ole hair brained idea from being signed into law.

I totally agree with you ! If there are no checks and balances things will go completly haywire. The taste of power with no checks and balance could lead to the same crap that happen on Wall Street. I would probably vote Republican just to keep things sane !

Yeah, I'll vote GOP for representative. Oust the GOP incumbant for and replace him with a junior rep with enough experience to know WTF he is doing.

yes it is time to remove these old out of date and out of touch hatemongers and get some new blood in there. That hasn't be complete affected and corrupted by the old GOP.

One other thing people are missing is that this president is going to have a chance to sit 2 supreme court justices I beleive, which stand the possibility of removing that 3rd check/balance.

having one party in control of the executive and the legislature would be terrifying. it would be a blank check the the president and a rubber stamp for anothing congress decided to do. the court cannot intervene, it is not a proactive body. in order for them to decide anything a case has to come up through the system which can take up to two years.

i agree with voting out the incumbants. i really wish we could get some term limits so you wouldn't have people in the house or senate for 30 years. if they were limited to maybe 3 terms i think they would be much more focuesed on the will of the people instead of making a career for themselves.

Exactly, 1 party running stuff has a better chance of leading down the path of destruction than properity. The court is reactive, but if the new President were to sit 2 new justices, even the courts would be rendered mostly ineffective.

Newsflash fellas that is exactly what you had for the first 6 years of the Bush administration.

Republican white house and republican congress.

Republicans have to do a serious brand make over before i'd even consider voting for them.

The only down side of split party control is the gridlock when nothing gets done. Republicans have done a semi effective job trying to pin things on the democratic congress but what they wont tell you is that under their watch we have ran up 1/3 of the national debt in the history of the us in just 8 years.

exactly, and it wasn't a good time. some things got done but a good number of the career rebpulicans in both houses got way to power hungry. there has to be a balance, end of story. it doesn't matter which party it is, without someone there to oppose them and keep them in check then there is nothing stopping them from doing whatever they want.

i agree that when they were in control they went on a crazy spending spree, most of that is probably tied up in the war but i don't have the numbers.

since the dems took over control of the congress though they have really done nothing. they have been completely ineffective and their approval ratings show that. As of today, congressional approval ratings are at 16.8%, even GW's are at 26.8%. This clearly shows that too much partisanship can bring the congress to a halt. i can't think of one meaningful bill they've passed in the last 2 years, if anyone else can think of one i'd love to hear about it.

there has to be a good way to balance this out while still getting things done. maybe if there we're 5 or so independants in there, i don't know.
