POLLS

If you follows the Polls and media early voting is on the rise and Obama is leading. Do you agree with the polls? Do you think the media is trying to influence our voting by constantly broadcasting this information?

I follow the polls put out by both CNN and Fox News with passing interest and I find it interesting that the 2 polls don't agree on many things. As a whole I find the polls to be a bad thing, just like media predicting the election. Polls on specific issues are fine, but to show a poll of who they feel is leading the general election is not a good thing. CNN has gone so far as to create a color coded map of the country to show which states are trending to vote for a certain candidate. Something like that has the potential to really suppress voter turn out in those states, especially a state like GA. If CNN were to be showing GA as red and likely to GOP, the greater ATL voter is less likely to come out because they may feel their vote doesn't matter. Same in NY, where if it were showing blue and likely to go Dem, your upstate New Yorker may say 'phuque it' and stay home because they don't feel included.

From my understanding there has been meetings within some of the news media on when to call the election if either candidate is winning by a landslide early in the voting. The fear is that if someone calls the election one way before the west coast polls close voters won't show because they think the election has already been determined.

I do not agree with the polls because they are biased and I sure know that I have not done any polls .. All polls are designed to be biased .. let's just see what happens 11/4/08

easy rider well said. I think they know Obama has a good chance at winning, so now the games will really begin and they are going to boast the polls to state that, hoping that it has the effect of Dems not going to the POLLS and McCain winnig..
