Can you explain what's the difference between being married and being in a long term relationship? (outside of the document we get from the courts)
What is the point of getting married?

There is not difference between being married and in a relationship. At the end of the day marriage is nothing more than a relationship that guarantees the other person half of your assests.
Really there is no point in getting married, too people and commit to each other with the extra expense. If your committed to a person then a piece of paper doesn't matter
Personally I think when you ask your self this question its more spiritual then anything. I think of it has having a union together
with God.
I too think that marriage is a commitment not only to another person but to God ..
Marriage is a tradition that has become a rite of passage, that people do just because it's whats expected. Isn't a marriage a long term relationship anyway, or at least supposed to be? The problem is too many people want the wedding and forget about the marriage/relationship. I have a good friend that let her parents drop $25K on a wedding. The entire planning phase person after person told her not to go through with it, there were unresolved problems, but oh no, she went through with it and had her dream wedding and less than 1 year later she is getting divorced.
easy rider my exact point.
I understand what your woman are stating regarding the spiritual aspect but ironically, how may married couples go to church together.
Marriage is for suckers

How can you say there isn't a difference between the two?
A marriage is more than a piece of paper its more that a ring. It's a bond(union) between two ppl that shouldn't be broken. You become one! If you go into marriage with that thought process i dont think it will work to well
Relationships aren't that deep!!
So Conrhonda, what you are saying is you don't really have anything until you are married. There is no deep meaningful bond, no connection to your mate, nothing is really keeping you there besides your desire to be with that person? A marriage is a relationship, the marriage is the outward sign of the level of commitment to the relationship. Look at it this way, can you have a good marriage with a bad relationship? Can you have a good relationship without a good marriage?
Conronda what your saying doesn't make sense. I have to agree with easy rider is staying. I don't even need to comment until you answer that question.
A marriage IS a relationship, in which you speak your solemn vow to remain together, til death, before God. It is not a separate thing!
Look up the definition of marriage people...don't have time...here are two...one for heterosexual and one for homosexual marriages:
*** the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc
***a relationship in which two people have pledged themselves to each other in the manner of a husband and wife, without legal sanction: trial marriage; homosexual marriage.
Ok yes I do think marriage is a type of relationship...but i was really just thinking the begining of a relationship things arent that deep...
By the time you get to marriage you have transformed some and I think you feel and do on a different level.
But yes I suppose marriage is a relationship.
