It is an often repeated question these days among African-American ministers and scholars. In search of an answer, many are re-thinking the ways they try to interest men in Christian churches.
Personally I think that people are loosing there faith Christian, Catholic etc. I think most men like to believe in things were they can see instant result. They dont believe in this thing called faith and patience. Like most of America we believe in instant gratification.

Wow .. This is heavy. I do believe that the Christian church are losing a lot of black men unless you are in the south. I think education and insight in other cultures has made a lot of men stray into things like Buddism, Scientology, Hinduism, Rastafari, Islam, etc .. because those religions teach you about faith in oneself or oneness with God which is totally different than Christianity.
wow thats a great way to put it StS I didnt really think about it along those lines.
But I do find it that people believe in a higher being these days rather then religion.
More so morals....
Actually I think the number of black men in churches are up compared to years ago. One major thing of the past was churches appeared to always ask for money. Men didn't or couldn't see giving their hard earned money to another man. Many didn't see the spiritual side of it
I dont think that had/has anything to do with it. Cause you can still up the church and not give a dime.
Okay Golden .. Who is Dakim trying to fool???!!! LMBO
I wasn't talking about myself, I do know back in the days that was a complaint with alot of men. I'm not giving my money to this man and the church is always begging.
I feel that growing up, your parents pushed religion on you and in most situations we didn't understand what we are learning. As we get older and look for something more to fulfill us. We look for diversity without the traditional rules. Think about how the traditional baptist church is to some degree being replaced by non deominational churches where membership among men are high.
It all starts at HOME. I believe if you are brought up with it you will go back to it
I disagree Ronda. I know plenty of ppl that were brought up that way. They found their way to other religions..
It doesn't matter which one just as long as you realize there is a greater being than you. That's what I mean by come back
Rhonda I hear what your saying.
I know ppl that are turned off by what was forced or taught depends on how you view it. They believe but don't go to worship because they feel there are pimps in the pulpit
I haven't noticed the number of black men going down in my church. They might have more in there now that football season is over with. I mean we all have Sundays where we just want to sleep in late. And I don't know about northern states but I was born and raised in the south and I don't see any difference.
StS must live in the south.
