Spending

Tell me what do you guys think about spending these days. After reading all the stuff on CNN its like people arent really spending money everybody wants to save. But isnt that doing things wrong shouldnt we be spending so that we can keep people with jobs and keep the economy going?

I do my part everything I go have a drink and purchase something either a shirt or some pants on pay day..

What about you guys are you spending or trying to hold on to every penny you have?

I spend as I see necessary. On the surface the economic problem is being compounded with people trying to save and financial institutions making it harder for people who want to spend to get the money to spend. The banks seems to be the fueling this recession, they initially loaned to suspect investors in the housing market, righting mortgages for any Tom, Dick and Harry that had a pulse and a job, they inflated prices, created a boom in construction and did WTF they wanted. The bottom fell out and now they are doing the exact opposite, they aren't lending to anyone, devalueing the same property they wrote a $320K mortgage on and causing serious cash flow issues for both established and budding industries. With them acting in this manner other industries are doing the same thing, auto makers are another prime example, they are closing domestic plants and increasing production at foreign facilities.

In short, spending can only help so much, it will take the finacial institutions to open the spiggot of money and let capital flow back in the market. Credit is like fertilizer to the job market, as you allow companies access to credit, the market will grow. You just can't over fertilize the market (again), the Sect of Tres, should be seen as the Head Greens Keeper at Eastlake Country Club, that grass is green 365 days a year.

so what you trying to say is that your lil bit of spending doesnt really make a dent

Well for me I pondered on saving as I do work for a bank. With all the pink slips flying around I thought I should take it easy on the heavy spending. However I did splurge a bit by paying for an expensive vacation this coming summer. My view on it if I get laid off the money I spent is about how much I'd get for severance. So I took the risk just for that one trip I've become quite conservative with my funds lately. Holding off on the big ticket items like purchasing a house. You loose your job the last thing you want is a high butt house note to boot.

i am still spending money, things seem to cost less now so in many cases I am spending less. i don't think of it as contributing to the economy, more like taking advantage of what's available.

I am with the spending when I need to but its the reg stuff thats high like tissue and paper towels,,,,

Hell its like 20 bucks to purchase that stuff now.

But if you want some nike's or some new jeans they on sale.

We need to the basis sh*t to be cheap

You know what Star, you right, the 'wants' are the things that people are putting on sale, not the 'needs'. It's a damn shame that retailers are squeezing blood out of a stone on the necessities, but will give you some BS you can live without. What's worse is the mark-ups on the extra stuff is substantially higher than the mark-ups on the things like paper products and groceries.

I am clipping coupons, paying down debt, called my mortgage company for a modification of my loan, cutting the lights off when I am not in the room, unplugging appliances .. HELLO!! Everything is predicting this down turn for the next 5-7 yrs so .. I have to be careful. Spending at this time is not wise .. I don't need a new pair of shoes .. I think that is just being wasteful

StS we know that all women need a new pair of shoes sometime now lets not call that wasteful we just need to cut back on how much we spend ya know.

But I'm with ya on cutting stuff off like the county is going up on water my bill was 83.00 its only 2 of us in the house I mean really whats the deal

I am holding on to all my pennies at least til Friday when I drink with GS.. LOL

Seriously, This country was built on people speading.. Now they want us to continue spending while companies take the money I spend and reward the CEO's and don't allow much to trickle down to the people who need it. You hate to think you not spending may keep someone out a job but think about how our tax dollars being given away and they are not offer us anything in return.

I agree with Easy Rider, I spend as I see necessary. I am cautious about making major purchases, car, house....

But I pretty much flow like I did last year. I do not feel that we can start living our lives in fear of tomorrow.

I think people save for more of a fear of not being able to pay bills I mean with all the lay offs you still want to keep thing standing you dont want bad credit and all this other stuff thats going on...
