From what i've heard, the reason there isn't an agreement is because the plan pushed by the white house doesn't include any real outside oversight and just wants to hand paulson a blank check. under another proposed plan supported by house republicans the money would be given to the banks as a loan with 2% interest and 5 years to pay it back as well as including outside auditors to make sure that the money is spent wisely and not just wasted. I think this plan would be much better than saddling the tax payers with $700B that will probably never get paid back.

I have to agree with you Josh,

Question for anyone,
Where would we get the $700B?

I have heard print some money and get the rest from China !

the problem with a monetary like ours thats really only based in trust of the governemtn is that this money really only exists on paper. if the government oks this bailout all that will really happen is control of these organizations will transfer to the government and $700B will be tacked on to the national debt. no real money will ever change hands, it will just be more that we will have to eventually pay off.

China and the FED will pump money into the system causing inflation.

I don't agree with this corporate welfare at all. Especially GW strong armed fear mongering tactics.

Those banks made jacked-up decisions and like most Repubs and all Dems feel, I too, agree that those greedy bastards mis-managed their money and do not deserve "golden parachutes" at the taxpayers' expense. And just as the Senator of Alabama and Nancy Pelosi stated this morning, Bush allowed non-censoring of these banks and let them run amuck, now he wants to bail them out, putting the burden on OUR backs. He also gave big companies tax-breaks for shipping jobs overseas, hence, putting us even further in the poor house. Now he wants us to save these banks, with no guarantee they'll pay it back and STILL doesn't want to modify the plan, meaning that IF they were bailed out, a stipulation of the deal includes omitting the millions of dollars of bonuses for these executives. Why the hell should they be REWARDED for jacking up? Come on, people, let's think. If we were dumb enough to let Bush have his way and bail his buddies out, he basically hands them a blank check and before you know it, the 700 billion turns into 1.5 trillion. Bottom line is, Bush is out in 4 months, and he has no financial worries for the rest of his life. It's us who will be stuck with the fruits of HIS mistake.

ms geraldo, well spoken and i think Bush is trying to set his buddies up to continue doing business as they always done. He doesn't care because he is out soon, so one last thing to FUCKUP the economy doesn't mean anything to him.

I can't say I completly agree with Obama's "Robin Hood" way of taking from the rich and giving to the poor. But at least it is a start and gives the other side a chance to see how if feels when money (jobs) are taken from you !
