The Obama Factor

What are your thoughts on this statement by Jeff Johnson.

... what makes the potential of President Obama different is that he will be in front of the world everyday as a reminder of what we can achieve. The global press will for once actually help the image of the Black male as they cover the White House. However, the President will be many brothers greatest nightmare too, if they choose to be raggedy because sisters will now have a new male model. No longer can a brother say “I was too busy” or “I worked too hard today,” because you already know if Barack could take Michelle to dinner they question becomes, “how come you can’t take me”…and if you President Obama could find time to be with the girls, “what are you doing that is so important?” His example will forever change how we view our potential and because of that,

True, the argument can be made if President Obama has time to do XYZ, than why can't the average man do the same, but the average also doesn't have a team of advisors, the average man may not have as strong a support system as the president does. All that being said, it shouldn't really take having an african-american president for those things to start to happen in individual households. If you allowed it not to happen before 1/20/09, all you can do is ask/request that it start now because you allowed it not to happed for so long before.

This problem is not new. Women have been having problems with men since the beginning of time and vice versa. We need to stop searching for a savior and start expecting better from each other in general. Don't let Obama be the measure we all have to be judged by because he has made such an accomplishment. We all have improvements to make in our personal journey in this world. Its sad that we don't have more examples of what a great man could become but its hopeful because there is. Hopefully with the change that America has accepted there he has opened the door for more to come. Basically I agree with EASYR

I agree with Easy and Dnasty, so I don't have much to say.

However, Obama is an inspiration but he doesn't motivate me to ask. I motive me to action. If I put everything into man and (I think that part of our problem is we look for man to get us going) when he slips or fall do I go with him?

I agree with you guys in some ways, but lets be real that black men had lost focus and I cant really tell you where or how it happened. I think when this black man took office it did give a lot of people some type of motivation, kinda like they cant say shit like " the white man is holding me down" or the ghetto feeling like there really isn't a way out.

I think that we will see more black kids thinking about getting back into politics, I mean I just think it opens up the door for a number of things or for us as a people to feel like we accomplish.

It's going to bring a lot of people back into politics for 2 reason, they actually paid attention this time AND you have a president that freely admitted that he has smoked some weed. A lot of folks have always said 'I would run but man...all that weed I smoked in college is gonna come back and bite.' I can so see being the governor now, except my views are way to extreme, oh well, it could happen...right?
