I think it depends on how one is approaching the relationship.
If all you want is casual sex, well, you can have that on the first date.
If you want to get to know the person, you might wait a week...maybe a month (whatever your personal "rules" are).
Sometimes, you have an interest in a person but you're not yet comfortable for intimacy. If you've just gotten out of a relationship, for instance, you might make the next person wait longer because you need time to heal.
